Lime essential oil has a very distinctive, uplifting fragrance, similar to lemon oil, but stronger. Its therapeutic uses are also similar to lemon, in that it is a strong bug killer (bacteria, fungi, and viruses), it is astringent on the skin (good for acne and other excess oil type conditions), is a tonic to the lymphatic and digestive systems, and is sometimes used in treating fluid retention.
As a nervous system stimulant, it is recommended for mental tiredness and fatigue, and as an anti-depressant. Lime essential oil, is, however, like bergamot, photo-toxic on the skin, and so one should never expose areas of the skin treated with lime to sunlight (or sun-lamps) for 24 hours after treatment, or there will be a serious risk of sunburn.
Blends well with Cedarwood, lavender, Grapefruit or Ylang Ylang.
