BSW Peppermint Essential Oil 10ml

Peppermint essential oil is one of the most stimulating of all the oils, it really gives you a lift, and many people carry a bottle around to sniff when feeling tired. Its unique fragrance is unmistakable and uplifting. It is also a cooling oil, great to apply a drop or two neats on the forehead for a tension headache, but be very careful to keep it well away from the eyes and other mucous membrane areas, as it stings these areas severely.

Peppermint essential oil also has very strong antispasmodic and analgesic properties and is one of the main oils for relieving muscle spasms and pain, and (like most of the herb oils) it also has a strong action on the digestive system, where it is often used for relieving stomach upset or nausea.

Alongside its cooling effect, it also has vasoconstrictive properties, ie. it constricts the blood vessels, which also is associated with it being a tonic for the lymphatic system. A word of warning, however, use peppermint oil with caution in the bath, and definitely, only when mixed with an emulsifier, otherwise little droplets can float on the water and get into sensitive areas, causing painful burning.
